Most modern cars use a car key that contains a transponder chip that is programmed to correspond to the car’s immobiliser and on-board computer (ECU).  The transponder is programmed to match the car to prevent unauthorised access and maintain the vehicles security levels.  With these modern car keys it is not possible to simply have a replacement car key cut at your local locksmith.  In order to programme the transponder chip specialised equipment is needed.
